Member Benefits

Since the Illinois Academy of Audiology was established in 1992, it has continually provided outstanding educational opportunities and membership communication, advocated for the profession and the people it serves, and increased awareness of the public and allied professionals about our field.   These accomplishments are only possible through the support and commitment of its members.

ILAA PROVIDES CURRENT INFORMATION AND CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR ITS MEMBERS

The annual ILAA convention is recognized as one of the most outstanding conventions in the nation.  You will not want to miss it!  Your membership entitles you to reduced registration fees.  For more information, see the convention FAQ.

In addition, ILAA’s newsletter, Sounding Board, provides its membership with up to date information on important state issues, reimbursement, job opportunities, and hot topics in the field. For the most timely or pressing topics, broadcast emails also keep our members current on topics affecting the profession.

The new ILAA website provides up to date information from all members of the Board of Directors at a glance via the home page "In the News" section; however, only members are able to view the details of such elements as position postings or many CE offerings.

ILAA ADVOCATES FOR THE PROFESSION AND THE PEOPLE IT SERVES

From its inception, ILAA has advocated legislatively for the profession and the people it serves.  It has updated the audiology licensing act to ensure that it is current and consistent with the practice of audiology.  It has advocated for the universal newborn hearing screening act and proposed enhanced school screening methods.

It was a major force in eliminating the need for dual licensing to dispense hearing instruments.  It has worked to prevent legislation that would have overly complicated the dispensing of assistive devices.  It has advocated for the profession in various reimbursement issues and was successful in opening a variety of codes.  ILAA is preparing a proactive legislative agenda to enhance the profession and the provision of audiologic services.

ILAA PROVIDES MORE THAN A MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY

ILAA’s online Find an Audiologist search is more than just a listing of its members.  The advanced search features allow users to locate audiologists based on name, location, and services provided so that the public and other professionals can find you or refer to you.  You can list all your office locations and even link to your office website.

ILAA PROMOTES PUBLIC AWARENESS

ILAA’s updated website provides information about hearing and balance disorders as well as access for the public to your office information and the services you provide. ILAA has produced a Careers In Audiology brochure for pre-college students, and judges at the Illinois Junior Academy Science Fair each year to promote our profession to promising young people and their families and teachers.  It also offers a college scholarship to students with hearing impairment.  ILAA participates in numerous museum, public and school functions/career days to increase awareness of the field of audiology.

ILAA SUPPORTS AUDIOLOGY STUDENTS

The ILAA supports and recognizes outstanding Illinois audiology students through two scholarships and a research award. It also facilitates externship sites and mentoring.  Read about the scholarships offered.

Through donations from generous ILAA members, membership and convention registration support is given to Illinois audiology students.
